Which way to go?

Have you ever come to a fork in the road,  a spot where the road diverged in multiple directions, and you had to choose a way to go?

Britton and I recently returned from a road trip. As we approached Regina we came to a fork in the road.  All of the construction on the new bypass has created a myriad of paths that you can follow, some marked and paved, and some not.   We could see our destination, Regina was in sight, but the jumble of signs and multiplicity of paths confused us.  We thought we knew the way, but it turned out we didn’t. Instead of getting closer to home we ended up going a different way. It was frustrating.

One of Jesus’ followers knew how we felt. Thomas knew the frustration of not knowing if he was going the right way.  For three years, Thomas had gone everywhere with Jesus, but now Jesus was leaving. He had said his disciples could be with him because they knew where he was going.  Thomas wasn’t sure, though, and he exclaimed, “No, we don’t know, Lord.  We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Have you ever felt like Thomas?  There are so many “ways” we could go in life.  There are so many choices and forks in the road of life that it’s easy to go the wrong way and end up somewhere you didn’t expect.  It’s easy to end up frustrated in life.

This weekend we are going to look at what Jesus said to Thomas in response, and how we can be sure we end up with the life we were created for.  I hope you’ll join us this weekend as we explore John 14:1-14 and learn what Jesus meant when he said, “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.”

See you Sunday,

Pastor Kirk
