What’s your favourite summer song?

When I was a teenager there always seemed to be a song on the radio that was the song of the summer.   When I was 15 it was “The Power of Love” by Huey Lewis and the News.   When I was 16 and got my driver’s license it was “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins.  The year I graduated from High School it was “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns and Roses.

Every summer there was always that one special song. When it came on the radio my friends and I would crank up the volume and sing along.  We could be at the beach, we could be hanging out at home, or we could be cruising Albert Street and the song would come on. It didn’t matter where we were. As soon as that song came on we’d start singing at the top of our lungs.  The music brought me and my friends together.

What were the songs of your youth?  What is your favourite summer song?  Are there anthems of summer that brought you closer to your friends or that special someone?

Songs have a way of helping us connect. Songs help us connect with how we are feeling. They can help us express our emotions.  Songs help us connect with each other and often a special someone. This summer we are going to look at 9 songs that can help us connect with God, ourselves, and others.   These songs aren’t your typical top 40 hits now, but in their day they were just as powerful. They connected people just as much the songs of our youth did for us.

I hope you’ll join us this summer, either in person or online, as we look at 9 Psalms that will help us go deeper in our relationship with God.  This weekend we kick off our ‘Songs of Summer’ series with Psalm 23, a familiar song that reveals the starting point for experiencing a deeper connection with God and others.

See you Sunday!

Family Worship Experience
Join us this summer for a family worship experience.  We have redesigned our worship service for the summer months to be shorter and to be an active learning and worship experience.  Each week grade school kids will be invited to participate in the sermon through experiential learning experiences.  There will also be activity boxes each week for kids who just want to stay in their seats. This weekend’s service will include communion. This is an opportunity to talk with your grade-schooler about what communion is and if you choose have them participate.

Hope Kids for K-Gr 6 will resume after the summer break. Wonder Years preschool for ages 2-4 and First Steps nursery continues throughout the summer.
