What does joy look like?

This past spring I took my wife to Seattle to see her first Major League Baseball game.  Britton loves baseball. She has played since she was little and she played competitively. It is a love she shares with her dad, yet she had never been to an MLB game.  Britton has always wanted to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the 7th inning stretch of an MLB game and that’s exactly what she did.

When I think of joy, I think of my wife singing her heart out during the 7th inning stretch in Seattle.  Britton was filled with delight. You could see it on her beaming face , you could hear it in her voice, and you could see it in the way she danced to the music.  Pure joy – that’s what I experienced that night back in May. I never wanted it to end.  I shot a video to remind me of that moment. Whenever I feel low, I play that video and it fills me with joy because joy like that is contagious.  (I’d show you that video but I’m not allowed to share it! You’ll have to settle for a picture and take my word about the rest.)

What does joy look like to you?

This weekend we are beginning a new teaching series that is all about joy.  In the coming weeks, we will explore the book of Philippians searching for what joy looks like and how we can experience more joy in our lives.  We could all use more joy in our lives, couldn’t we?  I hope you’ll join us for this Sunday and the weeks ahead as we discover how we can lead lives that are filled with joy.  This Sunday we’ll begin by looking at Philippians 1:1-11 and the starting point to having a life that is filled with joy.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Kirk
