Under The Surface
The Walking Wounded
Pastor Kirk, Oct 27th, 2019
Scripture: John 21:15-25, 2 Corinthians 4:1-18, Isaiah 53:4-5, Psalm 139
Summary: We all carry around memories and wounds from past hurts and failures.
Main Thought: Jesus wants to renew all of you by healing your wounds and redeeming your failures.
Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):
- What is the worst or funniest injury that you have had?
Going Deeper:
- Read Psalm 139 – what is your reaction to the psalm? What portion stuck out to you? Why is the content both encouraging and challenging?
- What does Psalm 139 teach us about God? How does this concept connect in your mind with the fact that God is love (1 John 4:8)?
- What is true about us as people, as followers of Christ in light of Psalm 139?
- 2 Corinthians 4:1-18 – How do we set the truth out plainly? How do we preach Jesus Christ as Lord and not ourselves? But, then how do we interact with the act of sharing the truth?
- Read Isaiah 53 and pick out similar language to what you heard in 2 Corinthians 4:1-18. How do these two passages connect in the larger scope of faith?
- Christ took upon Himself all that was needed and required for our sake. How does this impact your day to day living and view of health? Both physical and inner healing.
- Jesus spoke with authority and backed up what he said with actions. What should we as His followers take away from His example of speaking the truth in love along side actions of power?
Apply it:
- Pursue healing for the wounds of the past, ask a trusted friend to help you with this. Ask the elders or pastors to pray over you.
Pray without ceasing:
Be in prayer for the people in our lives who we know who desire healing. Talk as a group and come up with a list of people to pray for this week. Also pray for those who are hurting emotionally or with a soul wound. Remember Christ wants to heal us. He is the great Physician and desires that we will be whole.
Community Reading Plan: 2 Samuel 19-24
This week add 2 Samuel 19 to 24 to your devotions. Read a chapter a day up to and including chapter 24. Look at the relationships that are present in these chapters and keep two questions in mind.
- What do I need to know from this chapter (a truth about my reality or God or a life lesson)?
- What do I need to grow (Is there something God is trying to teach me through His Word)?
Keep a journal nearby and write down any questions or thoughts you can share with your Community Group. Remind and encourage each other to participate in this group devotion.
