Under the Surface – Breaking Free

Have you ever inherited something?  Over the years I have inherited a few things from some of my relatives.

When I graduated from Bible College my mom and dad gave me my grandfather’s Bible.  Inside his Bible were handwritten notes he had made on a few Bible passages and from some sermons he heard.

A few years ago, my uncle gave me a book, a first edition of a book written by evangelist D.L. Moody.

I have an eagle, made of blue mountain pottery, that used to sit on my grandparents’ TV.

These things are precious to me.  I didn’t buy them, choose them, or ask for them. They were just given to me as gifts.  What’s the best thing you have inherited?

Have you ever inherited something that you didn’t really want?  Sometimes we inherit things that are precious and great, but sometimes we inherit things that aren’t so great, like a painting of dogs playing poker, a bunch of debt, or a risk of cancer.

This weekend as we continue our “Under the Surface” series we will be talking about some of the things we inherit from our relatives that aren’t exactly what we want.  We’ll be exploring Romans 7 and 8 to discover how to break free from things we’ve inherited in our soul that cause us to act or behave in ways that we hate.  I hope you’ll join us this Sunday and discover how you can break free from what you’ve inherited.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Kirk
