Marks of the Messiah – Disruptive – Discussion Guide

Marks of the Messiah
Disruptive

Pastor Kirk, March 31, 2019

Scripture:Mark 11:27-33

Summary:         We all wrestle and grasp for authority. Our fight for authority keeps us from connecting in relationship with God and each other. When we submit to the authority of Jesus we connect with God.

Main Thought:  The path to connection with God is found in submission to Jesus.

Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):

  • Are you rules averse or a rule junky?
  • Pastor Kirk said that whether we are rules averse or a rule junky we all wrestle and grasp for authority. Do you agree?

Going Deeper:

  1. Read Mark 11:15-17 and then Mark 11:27-33.  Why are the religious leaders challenging Jesus?
  2. What do Philippians 2:9-11 and Colossians 2:9-10 reveal about Jesus?
  3. What does it mean to say, “Jesus has authority”?
  4. In your life, what does it look like to live under the authority of Jesus?
  5. Do you find it easy or difficult to live in submission to the authority of Jesus?  Are there certain areas of your life where you find it easier to submit to Jesus and areas where you find it more difficult? Why?
  6. Pastor Kirk said that when we fail to submit to the authority of Jesus we miss out on the revelation of his presence in our lives.  Do you agree or disagree?  Why?
  7. What does James 4:7-10 say about submitting to God?

Apply it:

  • Is there an area of your life that needs to be brought under the authority of Jesus?
  • What is the Holy Spirit saying to you?  How do you need to respond to Jesus today?

Pray without ceasing:

Pray for the upcoming Soul Care Conference in Winnipeg (April 11-13) which was fully funded by an offering taken at our Sou Care Conference.  Ask for the Holy Spirit to meet with each of the 250 people who will be participating and that their lives would be transformed.
