Is there something you need to express?

Someone once said, “When words fail, music speaks.”  Have you ever experience this?  Have you ever been so full of emotion that words couldn’t express how you feel?  Singer/songwriter Lenny Kravitz once said, “Music is my life, it is a reflection of what I go through.”  I think this is true for all of us.

Since the first note was played and the first lyric sung music has helped humanity express what’s going on inside us and even more importantly, music connects us.  In the midst of life’s ups and downs, music enables us to connect with ourselves, with each other and with the divine–with our creator who loves us as a father loves their child.

The book of Psalms has been called the songbook of the Christian life.  In it, we find songs that express every emotion we as humans can have and often the authors of the Psalms directs their emotions at God.  Amazingly enough, God’s okay with the raw emotion directed at Him.  Being able to express how you truly feel about something is key to experiencing a deep relationship with someone and your heavenly Father wants to have a deep and intimate relationship with you.

This weekend Pastor Daniel will be us as we explore Psalm 22.  Over a third of the Psalms are laments, expressions of deep emotion, calling out to God in trouble, sadness and pain, sometimes even complaining against God.  Psalm 22 is one of these Psalms.  Each song of lament teaches an important truth, that God can be trusted with our emotions.

Is there something you need to express?  I hope you’ll be at Living Hope this Sunday as we learn and lean into this truth.

May the peace of Christ be with you today,

Pastor Kirk

Family Worship Experience
Join us this summer for a family worship experience.  We have redesigned our worship service for the summer months to be shorter and to be an active learning and worship experience.  Each week kids in kindergarten to grade six will be invited to participate in the sermon through experiential learning experiences.  There will also be activity boxes each week for kids who just want to stay in their seats.

Hope Kids (K-Gr 6) will resume after the summer break. Wonder Years preschool for ages 2-4 and First Steps nursery continues throughout the summer.
