Sermon Discussion Guide
1.) If you could walk alone with God what would you say? What questions would you ask him?
Read John 14:15-17
2.) The Holy Spirit is a gift, not something we earn. Have you ever felt like if you were more spiritual you could experience more of Holy Spirit in your life? What does it mean to you to think that Holy Spirit is God’s presence with us rather than something we earn?
3.) Why is it important for you that Holy Spirit is God? What difference does it make?
4.) What do names tell us about people? What are some of the names you answer to (mom, brother, friend, etc.)
5.) We have learned that there are a number of names for Holy Spirit: Counselor, Advocate, Witness, Comforter, and Helper. Take time to talk together about what these names mean and how they might affect how you view Holy Spirit’s presence in your life.
6.) Sit quietly and pray, asking Holy Spirit to show you which name is meaningful to you, in your life situation right now. If you feel comfortable, share with your group what that name is and why it is meaningful to you.

7.) Often, we pray to God and ask for more of the Holy Spirit. But realizing that the Holy Spirit IS God, then it might be helpful for us to change the way we pray. Take time together to pray to Holy Spirit. Ask Holy Spirit where in your life you can be offering more of who you are to God rather than receiving more of Holy Spirit.
