Sermon Discussion Guide
1.) What has been a game changer in your life? A person? An event?
Read Acts 11:1-18
2.) When Peter went to Cornelius’s house, people around him, fellow Jews, felt threatened because Peter’s actions went against their traditions and boundaries. Share with the group a time in your church experience when you have felt that someone has pushed the boundaries and you felt uncomfortable.
3.) Is there a time when you have gone beyond where you were to reach out people no one else was reaching and other people were uncomfortable?
4.) Peter’s vision changed for him how he viewed other people. He no longer prejudged people as clean or unclean. Take time to sit quietly and listen to God, asking him to show you where you may be writing people off because of their socio-economic status, culture, religion, or sexual identity. Pray together as a group that God would continue to show us that God considers everyone important and no one is beyond his or our reach.
5.) Peter spent time listening to the Holy Spirit, just as you just did in your group. Another element in going beyond means that we look for the Spirit, seeing where he is at work around us. Share a situation you’ve encountered where it seemed like the Holy Spirit had gone before you. Maybe it was an unexpected question, an answer to prayer, or a meeting that couldn’t have been just chance.

6.) Talk together about some of the ways that you can be intentional this week about listening to the Holy Spirit, looking where the Spirit is, and going where the Spirit wants you to go. Commit to going beyond in your everyday life and letting God show us how we can be game changers in our world.
