Groups Discussion Guide – Going Beyond Sermon Series – Week of March 11

Sermon Discussion Guide

1.) What is the most ambitious vision or goal you’ve ever had?

2.) What does belonging to the Church mean to you? If you were to put our mission as the Church into words, what would you say?

Read Matthew 28:18-21

3.) As we read the Great Commission, Matt Boda pointed out three emphases we were to look at, ‘all authority’, ‘as you go’, and ‘make disciples’. What exactly is Jesus calling his disciples to do?

4.) Matt defined a disciple as being someone who hears God’s voice, obeys him in their everyday life no matter what, and leads others to do the same. As you think about this definition of a disciple, how is this similar or different to how you’ve defined a disciple?

Read 2 Timothy 2:2

5.) Discipleship is not something that only happens on a Sunday morning. We are called to disciple others, to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 2), just as we see in Scripture with people like Moses and Joshua, Barnabas and Paul, and Paul and Timothy. Knowing that we are all called be disciples who disciple others, what are some of the barriers to you stepping out and seeking to disciple others or be discipled?

6.) Talk together about some of the ways that you can be intentional disciples who make disciples. Looking at the framework of invite, invest, unleash, commit to taking steps this week to fulfill the Great Commission. Maybe you need to have coffee with someone. Maybe there’s a way you need to speak encouragement and support to someone whose gifts are evident to you. Maybe it’s stepping up and giving of your time to do life with someone. Pray for each other and commit to checking in with each other next time you meet to see what steps you’ve taken.
