- Read Acts 2:42-47. How did the early church gather? What was their mindset? Where did they gather and why does it matter?
- Which of the four things in v42 do you find is the easiest for you to be devoted to? Why? Which is the hardest? Why?
- In v42, we see the early believers “devoted” themselves to the church, its teachings, and each other. In v46, the phrase “day by day” means “a consistent and extended period of time or existence, such as weeks, months, years, or even a lifetime.” How can we be devoted day by day to God and each other?
- What are some of the upsides of being in community? What are some of the risks? Read Romans 12:10-15 and Hebrews 10:23-25. What elements of community do you seeemphasized in these passages? What obstacles get in the way of our devotion to community life? How can we push against the individualism of our culture and false sense of community we have through technology?
- The description in Acts 2 of the way this new family of believers cared for one another seems quite radical. Is it outside the question for the people of Living Hope to think about selling our property or possessions to help someone else in our church in need? Have you ever witnessed someone going to great lengthens to care for someone else’s needs? How did it strengthen your faith? Why is it so hard to be on the receiving end of help?
- How can you practice the BLESS practices within our communion of saints this week?
- Have you written down the names of the three families you are going to invite over where you will break bread and pray together?
