Group Discussion – We Believe God is Father – Jan 16, 2022

  1. Which is easier for you to identify with – God as a powerful, ruling king or God as a loving, personal Father? Why?
  2. Has there ever been a time in your life when you felt God was not interested in your life or concerned about your well-being as a good Father should be? If this has changed, what happened? If it hasn’t, does what you heard in this sermon move you towards a different view of God as your Father?
  3. Read the following Scriptures of positional truths. What do these truths afford you as a child of God? What response does this illicit in you?
    1. Ephesians 1:5, 1 John 3:1
    2. Romans 8:17
    3. James 1:17, Ephesians 1:3, Matthew 7:11
  4. How does the sovereignty of God impact your daily life – the way you interact with others, spend your money, raise your kids, serve your community, pray for needs?
  5. Pastor Kirk listed six attributes of the father from the story in Luke 15:11-32: generous, patient, compassionate, accepting, gracious, forgiving. How does your relationship with God as your Father bear witness to these attributes? Which one is most meaningful to you today in your present situation?

This week, watch for the many ways God is present and active in your life as your Father and then stop and thank him for his care. When praying, use the term “Abba” (Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15) to deepen your intimacy with him and to cultivate an obedient heart.
