- Play the classic game – Two Truths and a Lie. If you haven’t played it before, here are the rules. One person at a time, share two things that are true and one thing that is a lie (do not share which things are true or false). Then go around the circle, allowing each person to guess which one is the lie. Once everyone has shared their guess, the lie is revealed. Keep track of who gets it right to declare a winner at the end. This is a great game to learn about each other.
Opening Prayer
- Open in prayer – if you are comfortable, use the phrase, “Come Holy Spirit come,” to open up prayer followed by a short time of silence in listening prayer.
Discussion:
- Share a time that you tried to learn something new, a hobby, sport, game, education, etc. What was it like being new to this and not knowing much?
- Re-read Acts 10:9b-20, 30-35. What stands out to you about this verse? What did Peter learn in this story? (hint: new identity) Why was his learning important? (hint: mission to the gentiles)
- Pastor Tim pointed out that worldly culture values the advisor over the apprentice and people often struggle to admit they have learned something. We would prefer to skip the learning part. Agree or disagree? Explain your answer.
- In what ways do you struggle to put yourself in a learning posture? What is the obstacle that makes this hard?
- When Peter had his moment of learning, he shared it with Cornelius and his household by saying, “I now realize…” using these same 3 words from Peter, share something you have learned this last week. In other words, finish the sentence, “I now realize …”
Prayer
- What area would you like to grow in your life? Share these and pray over them. If you have other prayer requests, you can share these also.
