Group Discussion – October 23, 2022

  1. Do you find it easy or difficult to talk to people? How about talking to God? How would you describe your prayer life? What is it you are doing well and what do you think needs improvement?
  2. Read Luke 11:1-2. Jesus addresses God as “Father”. In the Old Testament, the references to God as Father are indirect and infrequent yet Jesus speaks of God as Father more than 70 times in the New Testament. What does this imply?
  3. Read Psalm 9:10, John 12:28, Revelation 15:4. Why should we begin with a concern for the name of God? Why is it dangerous to pray for God’s name to be kept holy?
  4. How would you define God’s Kingdom? Read Luke 17:20-21, Luke 11:20, Luke 13:29, Matthew 6:33, Romans 14:17. What are some ways that Jesus spoke about this kingdom? What are we actually asking for when we pray, “Your Kingdom come?” What personal kingdoms do you have in your life that you may need to abandon to sincerely pray for God’s Kingdom to reign?
  5. Read Luke 11:3, Philippians 4:6. What does the idea of ‘bread’ convey? What does the idea of ‘daily’ convey? Are you content with the bread that Jesus offers? Why or why not?
  6. Read Luke 11:4, Luke 22:46, 2 Thessalonians 3:3. What is the connection between prayer and God’s protection?
  7. How would implementing Jesus’ pattern of prayer bring His Kingdom more fully into your life?

This week, read Luke 11:1-4 each day, asking God to reveal to you any personal kingdom(s) that need to be abandoned in order for His Kingdom to be fully realized in your life.
