- Share a story of an event or person who has shaped/formed who you are today. Why was this person influential in your life?
- Robert Mulholland gives this definition of Spiritual Formation: “a process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others.” What resonates with you about this definition? What do you struggle with in this definition?
- Mulholland breaks this definition up into four parts: 1. A Process 2. Of being formed 3. In the image of Christ 4. For the sake of others. Take a moment and discuss each point. How would you describe each of these points and why are they important? Which point have you seen already at work in your life? Which point do you might be the most challenging for you to engage in?
- This message series will lean into different practices or spiritual disciplines. What practices/disciplines do you already have in your life? How do they impact your journey with Jesus? Is there a practice that you have tried with struggled with? Is there a practice that you want to try?
- In Mulholland’s definition of Spiritual Formation, he does not leave room for Spiritual Formation to remain private but underscores the importance of your formation impacting the community around you. Col 3:1-17 is also clear about this reality. How might this small group give space for each other to learn new practices and encourage one another? How might the practices effect your small group?
- As the message series goes along, consider trying some practices together. And then following up with a debrief.
