Group Discussion – Holy Spirit Transforms

  1. How do you feel when you are forgotten or left out of an activity? Is Holy Spirit your forgotten friend, not really known or understood by you?
  2. Read Romans 7:21-25. How does it help you understand Romans 8:1-4? How do they relate?
  3. How does Romans 8:1-4 give you hope when you feel like a failure, frustrated with your sin?
  4. What are some ways that we set our minds on the flesh? James 4:4, 1 John 2:15 How should we deal with our feelings and emotions when they go contrary to the will of God?
  5. What are your experiences with your old nature? Do you still think the flesh can do any good or at any time be relied upon? Why or why not?
  6. What are some ways that we can set our minds on the spirit? Psalm 1, Colossians 3:2, Philippians 4:8
  7. Read Romans 8:11. What is Paul saying in this verse? How should this motivate us to live?
  8. Romans 8:15 tells us that we have received the Spirit of adoption, so we can rightly call God our Father. Do you think of yourself as a deeply loved child of God? Why or why not? If so, how should this change your actions? What is your favorite thing about being a child of God?
  9. How have you experienced life and peace when you have submitted to Holy Spirit?
