The Way
Prayer Focused (UP)
Pastor Kirk, September 27, 2020
Read: Luke 11:2-13; Acts 2:1-4
Big Idea: Prayer fuels the passionately devoted life.
Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):
- What are key differences between healthy and unhealthy communication?
- What is the difference between talking with someone and listening to them?
- Is listening a passive activity?
Going Deeper:
- Jesus’ life was fueled by prayer. What is your life fueled by?
- How does your prayer life compare to what Jesus taught and modeled in scripture?
- Have you ever said to someone “I will pray for you.” Did you? Once, twice, three time? Or until there is an answer? What does our answer to this scenario/question say about our passion for Jesus and desire for His will to be done?
- Are there areas in your life where you are more committed to rules than to relationship with God?
- What types of things do you find yourself praying for? Is the bulk of it just about your wants and desires? Or are you passionate about praying for God’s will and power to be expressed in your life?
- If our relationship with God grows when we talk to him and listen to him, why do so many struggle with prayer? What might be missing?
- Read the Lord Prayer in Luke 11: What is the focus of each line? How would you go about shaping your prayers to mirror it?
- Jesus refers to Himself as the Bread of Life (John 6) how does this connect with how we view “give us this day our daily bread”?
Apply it:
- As a small group, how can we be more committed to praying for God’s will to be done in our communities and in the world? In the coming weeks, as a group, what steps will you take to be more passionate about prayer for God’s kingdom to be done?
Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
