Sermon Discussion Guide

1.) Have you ever had a gardener? How did you take care of your garden? Did care of that garden include pruning certain plants?

Read John 15:1-8

2.) This symbolic passage is about branches that don’t bear fruit being pruned and thrown away. Have you had something pruned from your life?
Did you experience relief or sadness?
What growth did you experience because of the pruning?

Read John 15:9-17

3.) After pruning, as we continue to seek relationship with God, our lives often produce fruit. What does producing fruit look like in your life? Do you ask God that the fruit be lasting? Do you ask that the fruit of your life points people to God?

• Lord, what do you want me to do?
• What needs to be pruned? (What do I need to stop doing?)
• Who do I go and love?
