Sermon Discussion Guide
1.) We all have expectations in our lives, about situations, relationships, our plans. When was there a time when you had to change your expectations?
Read John 6:1-15
2.) The people in this story had expectations about who Jesus was and what he would do based on their experience and observations. What are your expectations about who Jesus is?
Read John 6:22-59 (you could have different people read the answers and questions, if you like)
3.) As the people’s proximity to Jesus changed, so did their relationship with him. They began to ask him questions and encountered places where their expectations came up against what Jesus said about himself. How would your relationship with Jesus change if your proximity to him changed?
4.) Jesus compared the people’s desire for manna with the Bread of Life that he is to them. Are there places in your life where you are substituting something else for Jesus? Are there limits that you are placing on how much of Jesus you want in your life? Pray with each other over these things. Ask Jesus to show you where you could have more of him.

5.) Take time this week to ask Jesus these questions. Listen to what he has to speak into your life.
What are my expectations of Jesus?
What would change if I believed what Jesus says about being my Bread of Life?
What is my proximity to Jesus?
How do my expectations affect my proximity to Jesus?
Where was Jesus my bread of life today? This week? In the past?
Where am I settling for manna instead of Bread of Life?
