Do You Really Believe This?
It Is Finished
Pastor Kirk, June 20, 2021
Read: John 19:28-30; Romans 8:1-13; Hebrews 9:27-28
Big Idea: If you can’t forgive yourself, its because you don’t believe its finished because Jesus declared it is finished and you are forgiven. You are fully known, accepted and loved. All you need do is accept the life Jesus has for you.
Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):
- Do you have any unfinished projects or hobbies? How do you feel when you look at them?
Going Deeper:
- What do Jesus’ words in John 19:30 “It is Finished” mean to you? What is finished?
- How do these words impact your prayer life? Do you pray as if Christ’s work is finished? What language or word choice conveys that “it is finished”?
- Read Romans 8:1-13. What is finished and how do we get to respond?
- How does this impact your view of the final judgement? If it is finished in Christ then what does the final judgement look like for those in Christ and those apart from Him? Read Hebrews 9:27-28.
- How do we extend an “it is finished” freedom and forgiveness to those in our life?
- Do you have a list for retribution? How can you move from desiring retribution on these people to blessing them?
- How is shame imprisoning you and keeping you stuck in past failures? Do you believe that Jesus finished work applies to you and your situation?
Apply it:
Use the prayer of Examen to reflect on Jesus finished work of salvation for your life:
- Prayer of Examen — Jesus what haven’t I accepted your complete forgiveness for?
Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
