Kingdom Come Next Door
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood
Pastor Colin, May 3rd, 2020
Scripture: Matt 9:35-10:8
Summary: Christ moved into our neighborhood to care for us. He has called us to live our lives like Him in our neighborhoods. Incarnate neighboring.
Checking In (Focus Here):
Galatians 6:2 – Bear one another’s burdens: Ask each other how you are doing and listen to what is happening.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 – Encourage one another: Speak the hope of Christ to one another. Encourage each other.
Ephesians 6:18 – Pray for one another: Spend time praying for one another.
Going Deeper:
- Compare the 3 instances of the Son of Man came. How do you read the mission and method of Jesus in these verses?
- The Son of man came not to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many – Mark 10:45
- The Son of man came to seek and save the lost – Luke 19:10
- The Son of man came eating and drinking – Luke 7:34
- Which of the barriers do you struggle with? Time, Fear, and Possessiveness. How has the barrier been dismantled or built up during the pandemic? What could you do to move forward with Christ in loving your neighbours and by removing or reducing the barrier?
- Think about Peter and the multiple sending moments he experienced (Matt 10, Luke 10, Matt 28, John 20, Acts 1, Acts 10). How was his neighborhood expanded? What was the focus and support for the sending moments?
- Do you think that the Incarnation of Jesus speaks to how we are to be present in our neighbourhoods?
Apply It:
Pray for your neighbours. Think up your own “open up” plan for the coming months. How can you start to create space and opportunities for relationship with your neighbours as the pandemic continues?
