Connect:
- Open in prayer
- If you are going to text someone to do something with you, what are you most likely to invite them to do?
Discussion:
- Share a time where you felt unwanted or wanted.
- Read Mark 3:13-19. It states that Jesus ‘wanted’ the disciples. The text doesn’t tell us, but why do you think Jesus wanted these disciples?
- Do you feel wanted by Jesus, why or why not? Try to answer this question without using biblical words.
- After Jesus calls the disciples it says that they came to him. This is the act of faith. We often talk about ‘coming to faith’ but people also talk about taking steps or even leaps of faith. Share a story about feeling God call you to something and the step of faith you took (or maybe that you didn’t take).
- In verse 14 it says that Jesus appointed them to be with him. Jesus also appoints us to be with him. Tell your small group what “being with” Jesus looks like for you. What do you enjoy about this time, and where is it a struggle for you?
- In Verse 15 it says that Jesus appointed the disciples to be sent. How do you see this playing out in your life right now? Where and how are you sent?
Application and Prayer:
- From what we have discussed today/tonight, what is one thing you are taking away? Who is one person you can share this with?
- What would you like prayer for?
Community Involvement: Food insecurity continues to grow in our city and we continue to have people call the church requesting help to obtain groceries or food to feed growing families. To this end, consider purchasing a couple bags full of healthy food for one of the community fridges (outside at 3037 Dewdney Ave, 1510 12th Ave & 2104 Garnet St, inside Al Ritchie Community Centre) or providing home-cooked dinners that can be put in the freezer at the church for the staff to give out as needed.
Global Request: Thanks for praying for Don and Betty who moved to a new location to lead the regional team. Pray for the logistics involved in settling into a new place including local registration and attainment of the permanent residency card. Ask the Lord to help them find suitable language helpers (this will be their 4th language to learn!). Pray that whoever they employ, a meaningful connection would be established so the gospel could be shared. Ask the Lord to bless the local team on the ground in this city with unity, purpose, and discernment through the Holy Spirit of how to minister to the majority population.
