- Three presupposition were given in the sermon: God speaks, we can hear him, we can respond to him. Do you believe these presuppositions? Which one is the hardest to embrace?
- Of the list given, how does God speak to you most often? How open are you to the others ways God speaks?
- Epiphany (Abraham, Moses, disciples)
- Audibly (Adam and Eve)
- Written Word of God
- Dreams and visions (Joseph x2)
- Nature (Psalms)
- Circumstances (Gideon)
- Other people
- Prayer
- Read Matthew 4:18-22. What are some typical responses you have had or you have seen from others to the call of Jesus to follow Him? Jesus not only calls Peter and Andrew but he casts a vision, telling them what they will become. Have you received a specific vision from God about what He is calling you to do or to become? Is it helpful sometimes to know ahead of time where God is leading you? How does knowing (or not) effect our ability/willingness to follow?
- Consider that Jesus extended this call to these regular guys while they were on their jobs. It was an ordinary day that became extraordinary. What does it mean for God to use ordinary people for His purposes in the world?
- What words do we see in these verses that show the men’s response to Jesus’ call on their lives? In what kind of situations do you respond immediately to a direction that you receive from the Lord? What are some things in our lives that prevent immediate response?
- Read Luke 18:28-30. Jesus did not deny Peter’s statement, but rather used it as a means of establishing the necessity and profitability of putting God first in your life. Does this make it easier to give up whatever we are holding back? Why/why not? What should this do concerning our willingness to follow Christ no matter where He leads or what He asks?
- Read Matthew 28:19-20. List the action words from this passage. Which of these action words is the most important? What specific things are you doing to make disciples?
Take time to pray for:
- A willingness to respond quickly to whatever God is asking you to do.
- God to raise up one international worker from every Alliance Church in Regina in the next decade.
- The 6000 unreached people groups to have a viable gospel witness.
