Who are you becoming?
That’s the question we have been asking for the last couple of weeks. Each of us is becoming someone. You could be becoming a mom, a dad, a husband, a wife, an electrician, a doctor, a computer programmer, a…fill in the blank. Those are all roles or types of people we could become, but “Who are you becoming?” goes deeper than a future career or role you may have.
The question “Who are you becoming?” is really about character. It’s about looking at who you are today and who you want to be, or what you want to be remembered for in the future and figuring out what you need to do to get there. In college I did an exercise where I was asked to imagine my funeral (sounds morbid, right?). I was to imagine who was there and what they were saying about me, and then write all of that down. The second part of the exercise had me comparing what I envisioned with who I was at that moment, and determining what needed to change in order for the envisioned future to become real. Have you ever done something like that?
This weekend as we continue our “Becoming” series we are going to look at James 1:19-27. Together we are going to explore who we are today and the responses and behaviours that will keep us from becoming the person we were created to be. I hope you’ll join us as we look at the character choices that will help us become what Jesus envisions.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Kirk
PS…are you in a group yet? Sunday morning is only part of the journey of ‘Becoming’. Each week groups gather together to explore the past weekend’s passage further and to consider how they can apply it specifically to their lives. If you’d like to join a group, email Pastor Peter.
Did you miss a week? You can watch past week’s sermons and series online.
