Group Discussion Guide – Triumph – Triumphant Beginnings

Triumph
Triumphant Beginnings

Pastor Colin, March 28, 2021

Read: Luke 19:28-44

Big Idea:    Jesus triumphed in a unique way that requires a response.

Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):

  • Like Colin and the falling fireworks casings have you been in a situation that required an immediate response?

Going Deeper:

  1. What thoughts or pictures come to mind when you think of victory and triumph?
  2. Read Luke 19:28-44 – what were some of the different reactions to Jesus? How have you seen or experienced people’s reactions to Jesus today?
  3. Is your praise and response focused on what Jesus has done for you or on who He is? Or both? Explain.
  4. Where are places in your life (work, relationships, etc) where you triumph? How often does that come at the expense of other people?
  5. Jesus’ triumphant return was the climax of centuries of anticipation for the Israelites, but many didn’t see it or respond well to it. Do you praise God for how he works in things we’ve waited for even if it wasn’t what we wanted?
  6. Jesus’ Disciples experienced many extremes during Holy Week. Jesus prophesied His Death (Luke 18:31-34), Triumphantly received (Luke 19:28-44), Communion (Luke 22:7-23), Death (Luke 23) and Resurrection (Luke 25). How does Jesus Triumph apply in the ebbs and flows of life?
  7. How are you preparing your heart this week to experience and celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection on Easter Sunday?
  8. Jesus wept for Jerusalem. (Luke 19:40).  Have you ever wept for the unsaved?
  9. What “donkeys” are tied up in your life? Are their areas of your life where Jesus wants to be triumphant?

Apply it:

What can you do to respond to Jesus Triumph this week?

  • Make a worship play list
  • BLESS someone in my life
  • Read the Jesus Farewell Discourse John 14-17 before Good Friday

Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
