Everyday Rhythms
Eat Together

Pastor Kirk, February 28, 2020

Read: Genesis 12:1-3, Luke 5:29-32, Luke 19:1-10, Luke 22:14-23

Big Idea:    You bless people when you eat with them. Jesus was a missional eater, he used his meals to build relationships and bring people to God. Jesus showed his loved by eating with people.

Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):

  • What is your favorite meal to prepare?

Going Deeper:

  1. Do you have rules for eating around your table? Do they change when you have guests over?
  2. Think of a time in your life when you felt like you didn’t matter or you felt excluded.  Who came into your life and blessed you by spending time with you over a meal?  How did that impact your life?
  3. What does eating together look like during Covid? What are some practical ways that we can eat together during this time of being apart?
  4. Are the people listed in the Scripture readings that you would have a hard time eating with? Is there someone who is regularly in your life that you would have a hard time sharing a meal with?
  5. In Acts 10, Peter listens to God about how what he ate affected his ability to minister to the gentile. What are things we hold tight that God might be calling us to give up in order to minister to the people around us?
  6. Jesus declared that people mattered to him by eating with them. What does it mean for Christians that we are invited to table of the Lord’s Supper?
  7. Jesus ate with people, eating around tables and celebrations were part of His teachings, and eating and gathering are alluded to after Christ’s return. Does the way you few meal times line up with the gathering principle that Jesus demonstrated?
  8. How could you use your meals to bless people? What would it look like in your life to be a missional eater?

Apply it:

B.L.E.S.S. Journal

    • Write BLESS down the left hand side
    • Make notes about what you hear in prayer and from others. Write down when you share a meal with someone.
    • Think of a creative way to share 1 of your 21 meals with someone else this week. Maybe make your favorite dish and double it to give to someone else.

Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
