Everyday Rhythms
Begin With Prayer
Pastor Kirk, February 14, 2020
Read: Genesis 12:1-3, Acts 1:8,12-14, 2:1-4, 2:42-47, 4:23-41, Acts 9:10-15
Big Idea: Every great act begins with prayer. We are blessed and we bless people by praying for them and with them.
Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):
- How have you blessed someone this week?
- Have you started your BLESS Journal?
Going Deeper:
- What does your prayer life look like currently? Do you have a morning routine for prayer?
- Are there more opportunities throughout your day for you to begin with prayer? Give an example.
- Has there been a time where you stepped into a story in progress, where Jesus lead you to bring someone closer to him?
- Why do you think we begin with prayer when it comes to blessing others?
- In Acts 9, Ananias is told by God to go to Saul of Tarsus to be a blessing to Saul. If you were Ananias, how do you expect you would have responded? In today’s words, Ananias response was “I’ve heard about this Saul!!! And he is a bad dude who’s out to kill Christians”. Now, in our world, that probably isn’t so. But what excuses do we come up with to question God’s direction we are to take?
- Have you ever considered counting the cost when asking for God to work? What is God calling you to give up in order to bless others?
- Have you ever begun with prayer and seen a difference in how the Spirit led you throughout the day
- What did Jesus speak to you during the service? Is there something specific you are to do? Share as you feel free to do so.
Apply it:
Commit to praying everyday for 20 minutes the rest of the series.
-
- Pray for the people you’ve identified as those you’d like to bless.
- Listen to Jesus: “Jesus, what would you like me to do today?”
Begin a B.L.E.S.S. Journal
-
- List prayer requests for each person in you B.L.E.S.S. Group
- Write down what you hear from Jesus
- Reflect on yesterday’s experience
Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
