Powerful Choices

Big Idea: Life with Christ is a journey of surrender. When you surrender your way, you make room for a new way. Every act of surrender brings you closer to Christ.
Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):
- What is your preferred method for learning something new?
Going Deeper:
- When was the last time you truly encountered Jesus and were faced with a choice of how to respond?
- Jesus interrupted Peter’s (Simon) routine. Are you tied to your routine in a way that is restrictive to Jesus using your net and boat?
- How do you feel when people interrupt what you are doing with something that is important to to them? Does it become important to you? Apply this thinking to Peter and Jesus interaction.
- What sort of things in your life would be like Peter’s boat and nets?
- What is Jesus revealing to you today about your truest self (what’s in your soul that he wants to bring into the light?)
- How does the way that you choose to follow Jesus impact other people (Like Peter and the people in Acts 2, or James and John in this story)? Who are you impacting publicly and privately?
- Do you take Jesus at His word like Peter does in this story? Is Jesus direction and words enough for you to act?
- What is Jesus revealing to you today about your truest self (what’s in your soul that he wants to bring into the light?)
- Jesus encourages and strengthens Peter (v10). Who can you encourage this week? How does Jesus encourage you? What has he called you to do to fish for people in your life?
Apply it:
Spend time in a listening prayer asking these three questions:
- Jesus, where am I standing in the way of what you want to do?
- Jesus, what do you want to reveal to me about yourself?
- Jesus, what do you see when you look at me?
Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
