Best Christmas Ever – Waiting

When I was a little kid, I hated waiting for Christmas day to open presents. For some reason, the anticipation was more than I could handle so I would find the wrapped gifts my mom had hidden somewhere in the house and carefully peel back the tape to reveal what was inside. I completely ruined the surprise and excitement on Christmas morning because I knew what I was getting and couldn’t wait for what was coming.

Waiting is hard in a society addicted to instant gratification. Someone has likened our lives to a giant vending machine where, with the quick push of a button, we can get what we want. If someone doesn’t reply to our text, if Amazon Prime doesn’t deliver that package, if  the stoplight is red for too long, we are immediately annoyed at the inconvenience. Think about the events in your own personal life this past week. How did you fare when you had to wait for someone or something?

This Sunday, we will look at two people in Scripture who waited years for something special to happen. In fact, their whole nation had been waiting hundreds of years for God to move. In the story of these two individuals, we’ll discover their attitude to the waiting and their response when the waiting was over.

If you find yourself waiting for something that doesn’t come wrapped under a tree, join us on Sunday to learn how to wait well.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Shauna
