In John 13:35 Jesus says that the world will recognize his disciples by the way they love each other. What does Jesus mean when he says that? It seems like a simple statement to understand, but is it really that simple?
Love is something that seems to be subjective. We use the word “love” to describe how we feel about someone special or a friend (I love my wife!). We use it to describe how we feel about a movie, a song, and our favourite team (I love the Riders!) We even use it to describe how we feel about the food we eat (I love Nanaimo bars!). What does Jesus mean when he says his disciples will be known by their love? Is he talking about our love of Nanaimo Bars or the Riders or is he talking about something else?
This weekend we are continuing our series exploring the Jesus way of living and we are looking at the type of love that Jesus says will define his followers. Jesus modelled a type of love that was marked by both challenge and acceptance, and grace and truth. I hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we look at John 13 and the loving relationships that Jesus had. Together we are going to discover how to love like Jesus and become what Jesus envisions.
See you Sunday,
Pastor Kirk
