The Way
Passionately Devoted (up)
Pastor Kirk, September 20, 2020
Read: John 2:13-25, John 5:19-30, John 6:38-40
Big Idea: Your passion reveals your real devotion – what does your passion reveal about you?
Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):
- What does passionate devotion look like for you?
- Have you ever dedicated yourself passionately to a task or goal?
- Is there a piece of art that depicts passionate devotion to you?
Going Deeper:
- Take some time to let each group member think through their day. Did today reveal a passionate devotion to Jesus?
- How do you spend your time each day? Does evening arrive and you find you haven’t spent time with God?
- Can we say “I follow Jesus, I am a Christian” if we do not spend time with Him?
- “Seven days without prayer makes one weak” a fridge magnet reads. How do we change when we don’t pray?
- “Prayer is where our heart and will are aligned with God’s.” Pastor Kirk – How has prayer changed you over the years? Are you more aligned with God?
- Do you have a passion to reveal God’s glory and do God’s will? How do you live that? Read John 1:14 What is revealed to others when they meet you?
- Is there something in your life that you are passionate about that is a hindrance to being passionately devoted to God? How do you use what you are passionate about to do God’s will and reveal His glory? (John 6:38-40)
- Read John 2:13-25 (Again): Is there a system in your life or society that hinders true worship? How might Jesus be trying to help you flip it?
Apply it:
- Ask: Jesus, what is the one thing I can do this week to grow in my passionate devotion to God.
Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
