Let Go and Hold On

Scripture: Rev 2:18-29
Summary: A compartmentalized life is not a Christ-centered life. It is Jesus only, not Jesus and. Jesus invites us to Let Go of that which is causing our hearts to be divided and to Hold On to him alone. A divided heart is not a devoted heart.
Checking In (Focus Here):
Galatians 6:2 – Bear one another’s burdens: Ask each other how you are doing and listen to what is happening.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 – Encourage one another: Speak the hope of Christ to one another. Encourage each other.
Ephesians 6:18 – Pray for one another: Spend time praying for one another.
Going Deeper:
- Is there anything that is dividing your heart? Is there something that you need to let go of to have Jesus Impact your whole life? (Don’t be a Bento Box)
- Read Exodus 4:1-5 – What did the staff represent in Moses Life as a shepherd? And in his ministry leading Israel?
- What is in your hand?
- What does God do in this account with what is released?
- Read Matt 14:22-33 – What was let go of and held onto? How does Jesus respond in this story? What do you learn about God from this interaction? What do you learn about people?
- What is the results of both Peter and Moses acting in faith? What does God do with their faith and with yours?
- What does and integrated life of faith look like? What does a Bento Box faith look like?
Apply It:
During your personal prayer time spend one minute releasing things to God. Hold you hands open and pray something like, “Dear God I release to you all that hinders my life being fully devoted to Jesus. Reveal what needs to be released.”
Then spend a minute holding on to Jesus. During this time have your hands closed like you are clutching onto Jesus. Pray something like, “Jesus, all I have and am and ever hope to be is yours. In my coming and going let me be found clinging to Jesus.”
