Divine Healing – Group Discussion Guide

Healing Service

Dr. Ron WalbornFeb 2nd, 2020

Scripture: Matt 8:1-4

Summary: Principles for receiving and ministering healing. This is a ministry for all believers not just a select few.

Main Thought: Healing is the gift of God’s promise and power in a broken fallen world. Regardless of outcome love and hope is always present.

Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):

  • Have you ever experienced healing or witnessed it?

Going Deeper:

  1. What are the four principles for receiving healing that Dr. Ron identified?   Have each person in your group read one of the following passages: Matthew 8 and 9, Mark 7, Luke 9, John 5, John 9, Acts 3, and Acts 9.  After reading the passage each person should consider if the 4 principles for receiving healing are mentioned in these passages and share with the group how they see these principles at work.
  2. Were the same words used to heal in each instance of healing in the above passages?
  3. What are the four principles for ministering healing according to Dr. Ron?  How are these principles evident in the passages listed in question 1?
  4. Acts 10:34-43 – What is revealed about Jesus in this passage?
  5. Acts 4:23-31 – Who is the one who does the healing in this prayer? Do you believe that healing is supposed to accompany the filling of the Holy Spirit and proclaiming the Gospel?
  6. Do you believe that the same Holy Spirit that was in Jesus Christ and that is in you his followers can work in power today? Read John 14:8-21 What does Jesus say about your identity in Him? What are we promised?
  7. The reality is that not everyone is healed. What did Dr. Ron say about this? How do we respond as the Family of God in care for the person who was not healed?
  8. Do you believe that love can be brought into every situation? Do you have both a developed Theology of God’s power in healing and a Theology of pain and suffering?
  9. Healing is a work of restoration towards the Kingdom of God. We pray for the Kingdom to come. How do we experience and practice Kingdom living? How do we process the disappointment of living in a fallen world?

Apply it:

Community Groups are safe spaces where we can discuss our faith and practice living out the life Jesus envisions for us, lives full of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.  In this week’s group meeting spend time praying for healing for those in your group who need physical, emotional or spiritual healing.   As a group pray for one another.

  1. Place a chair in the middle of the room and have the person requesting prayer sit on the chair.
  2. Have the group stand in a circle around the person sitting on the chair.
  3. If the person is being prayed for is comfortable with it (ask first), place your hands on their shoulders.
  4. Ask the person on the chair what they would like have prayer for.
  5. Invite the Holy Spirit to be a part of the prayer circle and lead you in what you in praying for the person.
  6. Pray a prayer of blessing over the person
  7. Pray for healing based on what the person is asking for.
  8. Check in with the person being prayed for and ask if they are experiencing anything (physical sensations, feeling of peace, whisper from God)
  9. If they have experienced something, thank God and ask for more.  If they haven’t, ask the Holy Spirit how he would like you to pray for the person and pray that way.   Let the Holy Spirit guide your prayer time.
  10. Believe that God is a good Father who wants to give good gifts.  Have faith that God is listening and cares even more about your friend than you do.

  Pray without ceasing:

Extend the prayer time for loved ones.

Community Reading Plan: Genesis 33&34

This week add Genesis 33&34 to your devotions. Look at the relationships that are present in these chapters and keep two questions in mind.

  • What do I need to know from this chapter (a truth about my reality or God or a life lesson)?
  • What do I need to grow (Is there something God is trying to teach me through His Word)?
  • Keep a journal nearby and write down any questions or thoughts you can share with your Community Group. Remind and encourage each other to participate in this group devotion.
