Let Us Adore Him – Shepherds Adore Him – Group Discussion Guide

Shepherds Adore Him
Let Us Adore Him

Pastor Daniel, Dec 8th, 2019

Scripture: Luke 2:8-18

Summary: The first people that hear of Jesus’ arrival are the shepherds, those living outside community, the poor and disenfranchised. God has forgotten no one.

Main Thought: Jesus declares the God has not forgotten you.

Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):

  • What does Incarnation mean to you?

Going Deeper:

  1. Have you ever felt forgotten? What can you see in the Christmas story that speaks to your belonging to God?
  2. Read Isaiah 49:15, Psalm 27:10 and Heb 13:5-8 – what does the Bible say about the intimacy that God remembers us with? How does God meet us in our loneliness and meet our need to be known?
  3. What role do the marginalized play in the Nativity story? How are they represented through the rest of Christ story?
  4. How are the marginalized represented and interacted with in our church and in Regina?
  5. The second week of Advent traditionally focuses on Faith. How does the story of the shepherds speak about Faith?
  6. How does the Incarnation of God in Jesus Christ bolster our Faith?
  7. What advantages do we have that can help others? What advantages do we have now because of the Incarnation?
  8. How can you share the Gospel (Good News) with your community? Who around you needs to know that they are remembered by God their creator and Christ their Savior?

Apply it:

  • Think about how you can use your advantage to help the disadvantaged. How are you remembering the forgotten?

Pray without ceasing:

This Advent season spend time lifting up the Elders of the Church. That they would be attentive to the Lord’s leading and humble in leading their families and us. Thank the Lord that they stepped into the space of spiritual leadership for us as a church. Our elders are Mark Stefen, Jim Haney, Ken Thiessen, Brad Crassweller, Howard Wiebe, Deji Oyetuga, Rene Handoc, Kevin Gatschene, Warren Mills, and Kirk Cowman.

Community Reading Plan: Luke 7-12

This week add Luke 7 to 12 to your devotions. Read a chapter a day up to and including chapter 12. Look at the relationships that are present in these chapters and keep two questions in mind.

  • What do I need to know from this chapter (a truth about my reality or God or a life lesson)?
  • What do I need to grow (Is there something God is trying to teach me through His Word)?

Keep a journal nearby and write down any questions or thoughts you can share with your Community Group. Remind and encourage each other to participate in this group devotion.
