Acts 12

Written by Wayne Bernakevitch

Acts 12: 1-19 – James, the brother of John, had just been put to death and this emboldened Herod to arrest Peter.

• While he was in prison, Peter’s friends were praying for him.   An angel appeared to Peter, unchained Peter from his guards, unlocked two gates, and led him out, unseen by anyone.
• At the house where people were praying, several of them did not believe it when they were told that Peter had been freed.  There was indeed a tumult in the midst of God’s visible working.

I am a partner in a large law firm.  Years ago, we reached decisions by consensus.  Now, with 40 partners, there is much discussion, debate, and disagreement before decisions are made by vote.

With respect to ‘Going Beyond’, there is no doubt a wide range of thought regarding this, ranging from great support, to indifference, to opposition.  Each person takes their position, no doubt for reasons valid to them.  But the Board has decided to move ahead.

We encourage everyone, both supporters and non-supporters, to bear in mind these things:
1) Respect the Board’s decision to proceed.  They are your elected representatives. (Romans 13)

2) Remain unified throughout – John 17:20… Jesus prays for us. John 17:23 says “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as You have loved me”
Unity is a mark of Christianity.
Definition of Unity:
– Unity is the opposite of being divided
– Unity does not necessarily mean that we all think alike about any matter.  Rather, it means that we all stay together in love and in the Holy Spirit even if we think differently.

3)  The Holy Spirit brings unity.  He provides us with the resources and ability to
remain united even while we disagree.  Together, in unity, we will
accomplish what God has purposed for Living Hope Alliance Church.
