Group Discussion – March 30, 2025

Connect:

  1. When did you first get a cell phone or smartphone, and why?

Discussion:

  1. What do you use your phone for? Share as much with the group as you feel comfortable about social media, emails, work, research, gaming, news, connecting with friends, or other categories.
  2. For those the group who are comfortable with this: pull out your phone and open to the ‘wellbeing’ section to see how much time you have spent on different apps today. What were the top 3 apps and how much time did you spend?
  3. What boundaries or habits do you currently employ that help control your phone/social media use?
  4. Describe your technology use on the scale of 0 being ‘I don’t know what the internet is’, and 10 being ‘I have a technology addiction and need help’.
  5. Describe your in-person relational connections on the scale of 0 being ‘I don’t like people’, and 10 being ‘I have vibrant, meaningful connections and am deeply known by others’.
  6. Read Ephesians 5:1-2. What is Holy Spirit drawing to your attention to? How do you define ‘following God’? What does the way of love look like to you?
  7. Pastor Tim shared some habits/boundary ideas for phone and social media use. What boundaries do you want to try this week?  How would you like your small group to help you with this? (Ideas: no phones in the bedroom, no phone as an alarm clock, bible before phone, digital sabbath, digital detox, no phone around your children, times of the day when your phone is put away, etc.)

Prayer:

  • Share prayer requests one at a time. As a person shares, ask the person on the right to pray for them, including anything they may have shared during discussion.
