Group Discussion – Trusting Jesus – June 5, 2022

  1. Read Luke 9:10-17. If you had been an apostle, how would you have reacted to the crowd’s overwhelming need? What is surprising (and not surprising) to you about Jesus’ response to the physical need of people’s hunger?
  2. Why didn’t Jesus create bread and fish from nothing? Why did he ask the disciples to find what they could? What is the significance of Jesus’ command: “You give them something to eat”?
  3. Luke records nothing in this account about the reaction of the crowd to this miracle and in doing so, shows the true motivation of Jesus for teaching on a day when he and his disciples were tired. What is Luke trying to emphasize here?
  4. It has been said “The best preparation of His servants for their work in the world is the discovery that their own stores are small.” How do we try to compensate for our small ‘stores’?How does the realization that your ‘stores are small’ help you to trust in Christ’s sufficiency?
  5. When we trust in the sufficiency of Christ to provide, we will have no lack and can participate in his kingdom purposes. Do you trust Jesus to fulfill your every need? Are you ready to participate in his mission?
