- Read Romans 10:1-4. What positive trait did Paul point out in the Israelites? How then did they miss Jesus, the Messiah? Why is zeal for God not good enough? How can a passion for God lead us astray?
- Read Romans 10:5-9. What two things are necessary according to verse 9 to be saved? Why confess? Does a confession guarantee true belief? What does the phrase “Jesus is Lord” truly mean to you?
- Read Romans 10:10-13. Have you ever been disappointed that you believe in Christ? What part does understanding play when we feel ashamed or embarrassed or unsure about our beliefs? What about the people who profess belief and then, after something happens in their life, grow angry/bitter towards God? Do they prove verse 11 wrong?
- The central affirmation of the early church was “Jesus is Lord” yet everyone else in the culture was saying “Caesar is Lord.” Who (or what) are some gods that compete with your allegiance to Christ? How does your faith include your whole person?
- What specific actions in your life demonstrate right beliefs about God that are attractive and compelling to others?
