Group Discussion – Global Impact – Oct 31, 2021

Guest speaker and international worker, Rhonda, shared from 1 Peter 4:7-9 about the koinonia sandwich.

What is koinonia? Do you remember what the two pieces of bread represented in the koinonia sandwich? Is suffering truly a part of the human experience for every person? If so, how? Is self-pity the same as suffering? What use does suffering have in our world today?

Rhonda described the layers of the Koinonia sandwich to pray, love, eat. Why do you think Peter mentioned praying as the first thing to do if we believe the end is drawing near? What does being sober-minded have to do with praying? What practical ways have you found to be alert and attentive to the needs around you so that you can pray about them?

What attribute of love listed in 1 Corinthian 13 appeals most to you or seems easier to express? Which one is hardest for you to show? If we really lived as if love covers a multitude of the sins perpetrated against us, what would life look like? If we really lived as if love covers a multitude of the sins we commit against another person, how might we live differently?

If hospitality reflects the gospel of Jesus, how might that shift our focus from programs at the church to relationships in our homes? In Matthew 25:42-45, Jesus identifies with the outsider, the stranger, the one in need. Are you presently friends with people you have no reason to know except for the fact that they showed you hospitality/you showed them hospitality?

This week:

  • Write down the needs around you so you can bring those before the Lord in prayer
  • Express to a family member or friend an attribute of love that is usually hard for you to show
  • Connect with someone, possibly from another culture or faith background, and begin to show them hospitality
  • Email shauna@mylivinghope.ca if you would like to know more about the Digital Mentoring Team
