Group Discussion Guide – Brand New – New Fruit

Brand New
New Fruit

Pastor Colin, May 16, 2021

Read: Luke 6:43-45

Big Idea:    The new life we live in Jesus produces new fruit in our lives. We have been transformed by Jesus into a new creation that produces His fruit.

Getting to Know Each Other (Start Here):

  • What is your favorite type of fruit?

 Going Deeper:

  1. What are some characteristics of Christ that you would like to see bear more fruit in your life?
  2. What is the first step of producing the fruit of Jesus in your life? Read Gal 5:13-26 for insight.
  3. We know the roots of the plant are vital in supplying the plant with hydration and nutrition. What are the roots of your heart burrowing into for vitalizing your soul?
  4. Do you ever try to justify your poor fruit?
  5. What might be some negative outcomes if you tried to bear figs as a thorn bush? If you tried to live like Jesus in your own strength and effort.
  6. Read James 3:8-12. Why is what we say such an important measure of what our hearts are actually like?
  7. Read Matthew 5:29-30. What drastic measures are you willing to take to make sure your root system stays healthy?
  8. What has changed in your life during the maturing work of Holy Spirit?

Apply it:

  • Have an ICNU conversation with a friend or family member. How do you see Jesus in them and how do they see Jesus in you?
  • Spend time reading through the Gospels this week. Pay attention to how Jesus related to other people. What are the major themes taught to us about how He lived His life? How did He spend His time?

Spend time praying for and with each other. (If you are comfortable allow moments of silence to linger to hear from God).
